Tour of McMaster Nuclear Reactor

Time: 11:00 am (times will be staggered with 15 min. increments, you will be notified of your start time)

Location: Nuclear @ McMaster, McMaster University, 1280 Main St. W., Hamilton

Dress code: Long pants only, closed toed shoes, (no heels or crocks etc.)

Parking: Lot 1, Parking at your expense

Join us for a free hour long tour of McMaster Nuclear Operations and Facilities which houses a unique suite of world class nuclear research facilities anchored by the McMaster Nuclear Reactor. MNR is Canada's most powerful nuclear research reactor, which provides neutrons for medical isotope production and scientific research on clean energy, medicine, nuclear safety, materials, science and more.

You will learn about the history of the reactor and how it began. When you enter the reactor you will be shown the Cherenkov Radiation and listen to a talk about what research is done in the lower level of the reactor. You will observe "the blue glow" of the reactor core first-hand.

Lunch at your expense. The Buttery dining room celebrates the history of McMaster while providing culinary delights that focus on local and sustainable ingredients to align with the Okanagan Charter objectives.

Park in Lot I. Turn right onto College Crescent. Turn left into the pathway between the Arthur Bourns Building and John Hodgins Engineering Building. Turn left at the Tandem Accelerator Building, then turn left to arrive at the Nuclear Research Building.


Enter the Nuclear Research Building (NRB) through the west (main) entrance to the new NRB Annex and take the elevator to the third floor. Signs will point the way to the Nuclear Operations and facilities reception area
